- WHERE WE COME FROM
Know Our Story
Every great company begins with a conversation. For SPEK, it began with a recognition among four of Tanzania’s leading Class 1 contractors that the nation’s growing infrastructure demands required more than individual effort — they required unified strength.
Skyline Properties Limited (part of DERM Group), Pioneer Builders Limited, Emirates Builders Co. Limited, and Kings Builders Limited had each established remarkable track records independently. Skyline built a reputation in real estate and high-end construction, including the landmark SkyCity Mall, Mwanga Tower, and DERM Plaza. Pioneer earned its name in affordable housing, commercial, retail, and civil projects. Emirates Builders is an industry leader in water infrastructure, backed by Emirates Aluminium, controlling over 40% of Tanzania’s aluminium market. Kings drives forward road construction and infrastructure equipment hire through their sister company, Quality Asphalt Limited.
In 2021, these four companies formalized their alliance under SPEK. The group was built with a clear ambition: to pursue the largest, most complex projects in Tanzania and East Africa—the kind that only a combined force could credibly deliver.
Currently, SPEK Limited serves as an umbrella company overseeing JV SPEK, Silo Power, and SPEK Industries. Together, this group of companies delivers a diverse range of services across construction, manufacturing, energy, and power sectors in Tanzania.
Within just a few years, SPEK Group had secured landmark contracts including the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project — valued at over TZS 100 billion — the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Station (JHNNP) with Arab Contractors, and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) with Yapi Merkezi. Silo Power brought national electrification contracts with REA and TANESCO to the portfolio, while SPEK Industries established a state-of-the-art pipe manufacturing facility to serve the booming water, oil, and agriculture sectors.
Today, SPEK Group operates with over 340 pieces of equipment, a workforce of more than 1,000 skilled professionals, and a project portfolio exceeding TZS 200 billion in combined value. The group is positioned for continued growth — both within Tanzania and across the East African region.
